Compelling characters and relationships. I need more information on how the magic system works and the lore behind the deities and cultures of this world.

I'm Glad My Mom Died
by Jeanette McCurdy

A crazy, raw, honest rollercoaster of the early life of a childhood star that I grew up watching. And, honestly I'm glad her mom died too. Despite the obvious love that Jeanette still has for her mother, there is no denying that her mom was abusive on many levels. I'm glad that Jeanette is starting to heal from all that she endured.

This book tells in great detail the military strategy and battles of the American Revolution. It goes on a bit, though and sometimes loses the big picture.

Braiding Sweetgrass is a gem of a text that should be read in every classroom in the United States of America. The combination of Science, Sprituality, and Prose brought by Robin Wall Kimmerer; an indigenous scientist whos work and very being seems to act as a much needed bridge to help the colonized and colonizers return to a more balanced way of being.

I don't remember much from my schools US History classes, but this was a great dive into the first years of Revolution in the US. I remember myself constantly thinking- how, just how did we make it through this? There were obstacles and short-comings (men and equipment alike) that could've prevented GW & his troops from ultimately winning; and, there were many losses along the road to independence. This book definitely inspired feelings of patriotism and a gratitude for those who came before.

Told from multiple perspectives, it follows a number of slaves who were violently ripped from their homeland, forced through unspeakable cruelty, and reached their breaking point, turning their pain into calculated vengeance, scheming of when the would get their justice.Even if they died trying, they would endure no more. And if need be, their resistance would be an inspiration for others to follow. - A hard, but needed read. A mix of the past and future in some senses, especially with the author drawing from his own ancestors.

A haunting true story of greed and betrayal in the American West. It was sad to see the decay of Molly's family as this story progressed. My heart aches for her losses. I am looking forward to watching the Martin Scorsese adaptation of this true-event

The Hunger Games

I cannot really set the book down. I have been having a hard time getting back into reading and this book has helped. Still painfully relevant to the times, the brutal and immense world that Suzanne Collins has woven will continue to be relevant and filled with important messages for years to come.

This is a powerful collection of poetry. I could really feel Joy Harjo's deep connection to the past, her linking it to the future.
